The Shrink and the Nut

As a comedian I love my job and when people laugh it energises me, but when I came to know India is the suicide capital of the world it broke my heart. The mentally-ill account for nearly 6.5 percent of the country’s population and it is estimated that this number will increase to a staggering 20 percent. Three age groups are particularly vulnerable to depression: pregnant or post-partum women, the youth and the elderly. India has only 3 psychiatrists per million people.

My sister Dr. Anjali Chhabria - a renowned psychiatrist for over 30 years and “The Nut” – which is of course me launched “The Shrink and The Nut”. It is a simple fast paced show and our aim is to create “Mental Health Warriors” and to educate people to spot signs of depression in friends, family and encourage them to seek professional help without feeling any stigma.
